What was your dream job as a kid and why?
I wanted to be an archaeologist because I thought it would be like a professional treasure-hunt.
What made you start your own business? Have you always had that Girl Boss Hustle? Or was it something that you grew into?
I think some very hard life experiences taught me to be incredibly resilient, which definitely adds to that Girl Boss Hustle. I actually used to think owning your own business was a terrible idea – who wants to work 24/7 without sick pay or holidays!? I started Fit Mixes (my Protein Ball Mix Company) initially because I wanted to solve a pain-point. I was buying so many bliss-balls made with a lot of natural sugars, and wanted to be able to re-create the same at home, without a messy blender.
What do you know now, that you wish you knew when you were younger?
That everything will work out just fine. Fabulous, in fact. Hard work always wins.
What’s your favourite thing about your job?
EVERYTHING (apart from accountancy!). Running my own show, having no-one to answer to, being creative and inspiring people to eat and live better is incredible. I still question how it’s my job on a daily basis.
And least favourite thing?
The admin. Lengthy emails back and forth with clients, chasing payments, and invoicing just isn’t my jam.
Tell us about another #GirlBoss who has inspired you
My bestie Sarah Holloway @spoonful_of_sarah who has an incredible Matcha tea company is a huge inspiration. She works tirelessly and is a beautiful human. She always has my back and we give each other pep-talks most weeks to keep up from falling apart. Running your own business can be isolating, so it’s amazing to have a networks of babes around you who understand your daily grind.
If you were a Twisted frozen yoghurt flavour, what would you be?
Original Tart with ALL the delicious, crazy toppings.
What’s been the biggest achievement in your business?
Shooting my own cookbook last year was an incredible achievement for me. I did it entirely on my own in a one-bedroom apartment in the city. It took me 8 solid weeks of cooking, styling, shooting, recipe testing and editing to finish 78 recipes to print-perfection.
How would your BFF describe you?
Creative, personable, loyal.
If you could share a glass of wine with anyone (famous, not famous, living or dead) who would it be and why?
Ellen. I think she’d make the most hilarious drinking partner. She’s also a very accomplished business woman – and has so many talents. Make it a gin though 😉
