22 Mar TWISTED SISTA | Hello Ashley
The next interview in our series is with Ashley Persaud, founder and creative genius behind Hello Ashley. Hello Ashley, is a social media and marketing company that aims to assist business’ in a variety of way including social media management, content creation and community engagement. Ashley is a digital marketing guru who has travelled through-out the world and taken her passion with her along the way.
What made you start your own business? Have you always had that Girl Boss Hustle? Or was it something that you grew into?
My desire to combine my passions for creativity and business, especially marketing, led me to create my own business. I believe, and continue to believe, that every company should market itself “outside the box.” In a creative and imaginative manner, I easily adapt to new industries and target markets. My parents have had their own company for as long as I can remember; I’ve seen determination, hardship, and achievement, as well as what that success meant when it was achieved. That is what pushed me to become a Girl Boss and to never stop feeding my hustle.
How is Hello Ashley different from other Social Media Marketing and Content Creation businesses out there?
Instead of an agency or consultancy, I want Hello Ashley to be seen as an extension of your business. I want my clients and partners to know that I can support them with more than just social media and content creation. I want to be the person they turn to for aesthetic, branding, and other pieces of advice! Also, I believe that a means of communication is crucial, especially for growing (small) businesses, to be able to bounce ideas off of someone! I want to be that person for you 🙂
Not to mention we also offer sales and customer service in our packages called “Community Engagement”
What type of clients do you deal with at Hello Ashley? and do you have a particular type of client that you enjoy working with the most?
I am able and more than willing to work with any client, and I have extensive experience in the fields of food, beauty, technology, and eCommerce. My team of copywriters and content developers will easily adapt to new projects based on target audience research and company preparation. Again, we strive to be an arm of the businesses we work for, so we take pride in our clients no matter the path!
Have you had any major setbacks whilst running your business? if so, how did you bounce back?
Yes, yes, yes! Time has been one of my biggest constraints since I started this as a freelance venture that grew into a business. As I moved from being a full-time freelancer to taking on the task of acquiring new clients and growing, I formed bad habits (pricing, goal setting, setting KPI’s for myself, learning while working…) But, as #GirlBoss and entrepreneur, errors are inevitable, and you must learn from them to do better the next time! I have to admit, I am still making mistakes but I am lucky to have the support team around me, whether it be clients or my team x
What is your favourite thing about your job?
Meeting new people is without a doubt my favorite part of the job. Being able to connect and learn new things regularly, such as fascinating social media tips, photography hacks, and product analysis, social analytics (nerdy I know) is what I find exciting! It’s been a blast learning how to market various sectors using social media and content marketing. I enjoy experimenting with various forms of photography, videography, and graphic design to broaden my knowledge for each client I work with. And, of course, there’s the matter of buying props! It might seem boring, but it is the most enjoyable shopping experience, and it is so much fun shopping for fresh fruits, mini displays, and everything else that will best fit my client!
and least favourite thing?
As a start-up, wearing many hats, I would have to say that administrative work is my least favourite part of running my own company! Haha Even though it is my least favourite job, I believe it is important that I remain on top of my business at all times!
Let’s face it, any business owner can agree that the sales aspect can also be challenging at times. Among emails, portfolios, follow-ups, and customer retention, there’s a lot to do. It’s challenging; you enjoy what you do and the people you meet, but it can be time-consuming at times.
Despite the fact that sales and administrative work aren’t always my favourite things to do, my customers and the incredible experiences I’ve had as a result of my company make every inch of what I do all worthwhile!
If you could give a word of advice to your 15 year old self, what would it be?
I wish I could go back in time and make my 15-year-old self find a hobby! I wish I had told myself to draw more, paint more, try new stuff, and engage in extracurricular activities while I was younger. My goal as a child was to become a veterinarian. What a difference 15 years makes! I assume that if I had explored my artistic senses, the leap to a creative career would not have been as daunting.
What #girlboss inspires you and why?
How can I name them all! I’ll start with the cheesy one, my mom! My parents have always owned a business, and I’ve watched my mother grow their company and hire more employees throughout her life, I really consider her to be the ultimate #GirlBoss. Why is she a #GirlBoss? No matter how well the business does, she is always being innovative. Her passion and determination is so inspiring. Not to mention these lovely people. Cass Spies, Sheryl Sandberg, and Kim K (corny, I know, but her business plan and social media monetization is brilliant!)
How would your BFF describe you?
If my best friend were to describe me, I believe they will say that no matter what the situation or circumstance, I am always smiling. I believe I am the most innovative member of the friend group, always coming up with new projects or ideas for us to work on. Above all, call Ash if you need a good laugh, someone to chat to, or someone to have a meaningful and deep conversation with.
