February Twisted Sista

February’s Twisted Sista | Holly Louise | The Fit Pharmacist

This month our Twisted Sista is Holly Louise also known as The Fit Pharmacist. She’s a woman of many talents including online fitness coach, café owner, pharmacist and fitness influencer. We chat to her about how important health and fitness is in her life and what a day in the life looks like for this busy Girl Boss.

How big of a role does health and fitness play in your day  to day life ? And why ?

Health and fitness is what my whole life is based around. Growing up, I suffered from a lot of health conditions – thyroid disease, rheumatoid arthritis, depression and anxiety just to name a few. My poor health is actually what lead me to study to become a pharmacist so I could help others who were suffering with health conditions.

But throughout the course of my degree my health suffered because of the amount of pressure I put on myself to be the best (I was a massive over-achiever) and my health hit rock bottom. After throwing myself a pity party for a really long time I decided enough is enough and I decided to do something about it.

My little brother was really into weight training at the time and he convinced me to come to the gym with him one day. From that first session with him I was absolutely hooked! Not only was training the mental and emotional release I needed, it also helped immensely with my pain. I also started paying more attention to how I was fuelling my body and quickly started to notice changes in my body. Since then, I have learnt SO much about nutrition and training and how to optimise these to become the healthiest, most confident version of myself.

So I guess you could say that health and fitness saved me which is why it will always be such a huge part of my day-to-day life!

Briefly run us through what a business day looks like for you.

Typically I would get up and have breakfast, reply to emails and check social media, then head to the gym. Then I get straight into check ins and new client programming. At lunch I like to head to Nutrition Station for a meal and make sure everything is running smoothly. I usually also have lunch meetings regarding the operations of the cafe and partnerships with local gyms.

Then I head home and reply to more emails and complete more check ins and programs, work on improving my systems, and plan content for social media (I run multiple accounts on various platforms). Then I have dinner, go to sleep and get up and do it all over again!

Why did you become an online fitness coach?

I was working full time as a pharmacist and I was miserable. I also was’t really helping people in the way I wanted to help them. I was essentially just giving them “”band-aid solutions”” in the form of medication for their problems instead of helping them actually get to the root of their issues.

I had just started my health and fitness journey at the time and I realised it was something I was really passionate about and something that I wanted to be more involved in so I furthered my studies to become a personal trainer so that I could start helping people in a more holistic way.

I naturally progressed into the online coaching world purely because it gave me a platform to be able to help more women all around the world. It was a really tough decision to move from being a full time pharmacist to a full time online coach but I am so happy I made that change and it has been such a rewarding and fulfilling career so far!

What is your favourite thing about being an influencer ?

I don’t really consider myself as an ‘influencer’. I’m just a girl who loves sharing my passion for health and fitness and helping other women achieve their health and fitness goals! Social media has been an amazing tool that has allowed me to do that.

I think that my favourite thing about social media is the ability to connect with so many other like-minded women that I wouldn’t have otherwise been able to meet. I have been able to build so many great friendships and create some fantastic opportunities for myself that I am extremely grateful for.

And least favourite thing?

I think it’s being grouped with other ‘influencers’ who abuse their following and use it as an opportunity to make money instead of help others. There are a lot of people who promote products that have no evidence behind them (particularly those aimed at fat loss) which prey on people’s insecurities and desire for quick fixes, just to make a few dollars. This unfortunately adds to the already huge amount of conflicting information about health and fitness that’s already available which can be very detrimental to the general population. I feel like it is my mission to correct this!

If you were a Skinny Minny ice cream flavour, what would you be?

Tough question! I think Cookies and Cream as I have a light, easy going, silly side to me but I also have a darker more serious side! It’s also my favourite flavour!

What inspired you to open up Nutrition Station Burleigh ?

I LOVE food and especially eating out, but I found that it was hard to track macros at a lot of cafes and restaurants on the Gold Coast. Something that really attracted me to Nutrition Station was the fact that the menu includes the nutrition information for every single item, which makes tracking your food really easy for those who count calories and macros, and those who are just health-conscious. Not the mention, the food is absolutely delicious which was also very important to me! I was presented with a great offer, and I believe the brand really aligns with my own personal brand and message so I decided to go for it!

What is your go-to lunch meal from Nutrition Station ?

This is actually a really tough question as there are so many delicious options! I am obsessed with the “Create Your Own Plate” option as it essentially allows you to create whatever meal you feel like on the day! It is super easy to track in my macros for the day! I’m also huge fan of the steak wrap with sweet potato wedges and chilli aioli. Please don’t make me choose!

How do you handle having various businesses?

Honestly it isn’t easy! There are days where I think “why do I do this to myself?!” But I am the type of person who isn’t happy unless I feel like I am accomplishing things and challenging myself. I just try to take it one day at a time, write to-do lists, prioritise tasks and delegate where I can. I am still learning how to juggle everything and I try not to put too much pressure on myself! Every day is an opportunity to learn and become better.

If you could share a protein shake with a girl boss who inspires you, who would it be and why ?

There are a lot of inspiring, hard-working women out there crushing their goals and creating some incredible businesses and opportunities for themselves – a lot of whom really inspire me! But someone who really stands out for me is Kris Jenner (not sure if she likes protein shakes haha). I think a lot of people are quick to judge the Kardashian/Jenner family but what she has helped her family build is absolutely incredible. She is a such a strong, powerful business woman (who would eat you alive), but then also seems to have this super caring side which are qualities that I admire.
